A Drill can be defined as a tool having sharp point and cutting edges, for the purpose of making holes in strong materials. Drills have a rotating drill bit and are powered by electricity. The one end of the Drill bit is grasped by a chuck and then the Drill bit is pressed against the targeted material. As the electric supply begins, the Drill bit does the rest. - Hammer Drills :- Similar to Electric Drills, the Hammer Drills has an add-on feature of 'hammer action', which is used for masonry drilling.
- Cordless Drills :- Cordless Drills have the arrangement of the Hammer Drills. Cordless Drills are a kind of Electrical Drills and they work on rechargeable batteries. Most of the Cordless Drills use Nickel-Cadmium batteries, that have the disadvantage of internal short circuiting and a hazardous disposal problem. But now, Lithium Ion batteries are being introduced and used in these Cordless Drills, that have the capability of covering the disadvantage's of the Nickel-Cadmium batteries.
Large Scale Drills
- Mill Drills :- Mill Drills have a moderate construction. The features of a Mill Drill are that, it takes small space, it is versatile, and is perfect for moderate machining. A Mill Drill is an easy replacement for the bulky Milling Machines. A Drill Press is used in these Mill Drills.
- Drill Press :- Pedestal Drill, Pillar Drill and Bench Drill are some of the synonyms of the Drill Press. A Drill Press can be mounted on a stand and bolted to a workbench. The advantages of the Drill Press are :-
- To apply the Drill to the workpiece, minimal effort is required.
- The table allows to secure the structure of Drill Press.
