A Screwdriver is a tool that is particularly used for inserting, tightening, loosening and removing the screw. The basic design of a Screwdriver consists of a head and a support unit to hold the Screwdriver in its place. The shape and size of a Screwdriver is such that it can be easily fitted in the human hand. The tip of the axial shaft is made in a particular manner so that it can fit in the screw of that particular size. Screwdriver can be termed as a versatile tool that is used in various applications in households, workshops, and industries. Available in a collection of sets and as a single entity, the Screwdrivers are one of the most favored tool among carpenters, electricians, ship builders, building contractors, domestic technicians etc. All the Screwdrivers are easy to handle. Screwdrivers are easily searchable in an array of shapes and sizes. In addition, the Screwdrivers can work by hand or/and by the use of electricity. Slotted Screwdrivers, Phillips Screwdrivers, PoziDriv Screwdrivers, Robertson, TORX, and Allen are some of the generally available Screwdrivers.
- Some Manual Screwdrivers, have the mechanism in which the screwdriver blade is locked to the handle for clockwise rotation i.e., while tightening the screw and is uncoupled for anti-clockwise rotation i.e, while loosening the screw.
- Some Screwdrivers have a detachable head, that allows one to use a single handle for the different sizes and shapes of the screws.
- Some manual Screwdrivers also used the mechanism of converting pressure into the rotational motion. These Screwdrivers are not in use anymore.
